Expanding the Internet to Nearly Everything

It’s no secret that the internet has revolutionized nearly every aspect of our lives.  We now carry nearly all of human knowledge in our pockets by way of our smartphones.  Of course, there are certain things that still haven’t quite been connected.

The following are some things that we should see gain complete internet connectivity in the future.

Our Cars

While we’ve already seen our cars gain Bluetooth technology and internet and satellite connectivity, largely focusing on media and navigation, we’re likely to see different functions of wireless connectivity sometime in the near future.

In fact, we might even see driverless cars sometime soon thanks to the improvements in small components like broadband power dividers.  These dividers can now be used in creating wireless connections that could allow cars to be controlled automatically.

Household Appliances

More and more household appliances are connected to the internet.  A lot of times, this simply allows you to browse the internet while you’re in your kitchen or another room in your home that’s away from a computer.

However, being able to start your oven remotely from anywhere in the world is something that might come sometime soon.  Imagine having your dinner hot and ready for you the moment you get home from work.  That’s something that could happen sometime soon.

Lighting and Security

Home security is something that probably benefits the most from internet connectivity.  Rather than having your lights on timers, you could control them from wherever you are to make it look like you’re home.

A home security system also benefits from connectivity, giving you a faster connection to your monitoring service than over a phone line.

Whatever happens, it appears that the future of internet connectivity is pretty bright.  We’re pretty close to tech that would’ve been science fiction just decades ago.
